Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed four wickets against West Indies and set a new ODI world record during the first match of the three-game series at Brian Lara Cricket Academy.
Afridi reached 131 wickets in 65 ODIs, surpassing Rashid Khan’s previous record of 128 wickets. He now holds the best strike rate in ODI history among bowlers with over 100 wickets, averaging one wicket every 25.4 balls. Afridi dismissed Brandon King, Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford, and Romario Shepherd to lead Pakistan’s bowling attack.
Pakistan won the match by five wickets. West Indies scored 280 runs in 49 overs. Pakistan chased the target in 48.5 overs and finished at 284 for five.
Hasan Nawaz scored 63 runs off 54 balls and remained not out. Mohammad Rizwan added 53 runs. Babar Azam contributed 47 runs. Hussain Talat made 41 and was there to hold Nawaz in the final overs.
Naseem Shah took three wickets for 55 runs. Saim Ayub, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Salman Ali Agha took one wicket each.
Pakistan leads the ODI series 1–0. The second match will take place on 10 August 2025 at the same venue.
