The PCB’s upcoming tours squad announcement is nearing finalisation for the white-ball tours of Bangladesh and the West Indies, and key players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi are likely to miss out.
As per sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has drawn up a preliminary 25-player squad after consultations between the selection committee and head coach Mike Hesson. Babar Azam has already been informed about his exclusion, while the future of Rizwan and Shaheen in the T20I format remains uncertain.
The final squad announcement is currently on hold due to ongoing discussions between PCB and Cricket West Indies (CWI). The discussions involve a proposal to replace the scheduled three-match ODI series with T20Is. If approved, a joint T20I squad for both Bangladesh and West Indies tours will be announced. The adjustment is being considered as part of preparations for the Asia Cup 2025 and the T20 World Cup 2026.
The PCB upcoming tours squad announcement expected to focus on younger and in-form players from domestic and franchise leagues. Officials have assured players that future selections will be based purely on performance, leaving the door open for experienced players like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi to return if they show form.
