In a strategic move to bolster its coaching staff, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former cricket stars Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal as the fast bowling and spin bowling coaches, respectively, for the Pakistan Men’s Team. The dynamic duo, both instrumental in Pakistan’s triumphs at the 2009 T20 World Cup and 2012 Asia Cup, will bring their wealth of experience to these pivotal coaching roles.
They will lead the team in the upcoming Test series against Australia (December 14, 2023, to January 7, 2024) and the T20I series against New Zealand (January 12 to 21, 2024), as per the PCB’s official statement.
Umar Gul, a former cricket star, coached in T20I series against Afghanistan and home series against New Zealand. He also served as the bowling coach for Quetta Gladiators in the last PSL season and Afghanistan’s bowling coach in the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2022. With 47 Tests, 130 ODIs, and 60 T20Is in his playing career, Gul is well-equipped to enhance Pakistan’s bowling strength.
Meanwhile, former world no. 1 ODI bowler Saeed Ajmal takes on the responsibility of spin bowling coach. With an impressive international career that spanned 35 Tests, 113 ODIs, and 64 T20Is, amassing 447 wickets across formats, Ajmal brings a wealth of knowledge. His coaching stint with PSL franchise Islamabad United further solidifies his credentials.
Umar Gul expressed excitement about becoming the bowling coach for the Pakistan team. He feels honored to contribute to PCT and use his coaching expertise to elevate the team’s bowling to new heights.
