Pakistan cricket left-arm fast bowler Usman Shinwari retirement has been officially confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on 9 September 2025. Shinwari announced that he will no longer be available for international matches, closing a career that included all three formats for Pakistan.
International Career Highlights
Usman Shinwari played 1 Test, 17 ODIs, and 16 T20Is for Pakistan between 2013 and 2019. He claimed 34 wickets in ODIs and 13 wickets in T20Is. In Test cricket, he featured only once against Sri Lanka in 2019.
Two of his most notable ODI spells came against Sri Lanka, where he picked up 5/34 in Sharjah (2017) and 5/51 in Karachi (2019), performances that marked his peak as a Pakistan fast bowler.
In 2017, Shinwari was forced to end his international career due to a lumbar spine break and in 2020, he had repeated health problems. Such disappointments limited his red-ball career, the PCB confirming he had chosen not to play longer formats in 2021.
The 32-year-old also represented Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2018, adding to his limited-overs career highlights. Domestically, Shinwari remained active in PSL, taking 42 wickets in 39 matches across three teams, with a best of 4/15. He also played franchise cricket in the Big Bash League and Lanka Premier League.
Before his formal retirement, Shinwari last appeared in Pakistan’s domestic circuit at the National T20 Cup 2025, playing four matches. His last major impact came in the Pakistan Cup 2023, where he claimed a five-wicket haul.
His retirement was officially announced in the PCB news update on 9 September 2025, having started his international career with his T20I debut in 2013 and finished after six years of international appearances.
