Webdesk: Wahab Riaz, Pakistan’s fast bowler took 18 wickets with Fahim Ashraf in PSL, but despite excellent form and performance, he was not selected in the team of players declared for Ireland and England test series.
In the third edition of the PSL, Wahab Riaz appeared in the exquisite form and gave tough time to all the batsmen by bowling 90 miles per hour with a magnificent line. However this performance also could not affect the national team’s head coach Mickey Arthur.
Mickey Arthur’s View on Wahab Riaz Exclusion
Defending his decision to not nominate Wahab Riaz as member of team for the England tour, Arthur said that Wahab Riaz did bring victory for the national team even once in 2 years. He said that “The players who have been part of the national team for a while, I expect them to deliver matches and make an example for the others”. We have talented youth that we will give chance to them. He also added that the decision to drop Wahab was difficult, but we have to think of victory in this series. Wahab managed to score 17.4 in the fitness test before the announcement of the game, but Mickey Arthur set 19 score criteria for fast bowler, who failed to achieve it.
In his place young Shaheen Shah Afridi, who scored 18 points on the training camp was selected. Mickey Arthur said Wahab Riaz is not a bad bowler nor does he have any problem with his bowling, but he needs to consider his training method. He also said that ‘Unless you win the match with continuity, you will be pressured for the position in the team ‘. After this decision by the head coach of the national team the future of Wahab Riaz in the domestic cricket look bleak.
