Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has responded to the ongoing discussion about his statue installed at Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad.
On social media platform X, Wasim Akram posted an image comparing his statue with that of a cheetah, stating, “Mine is definitely better than the tiger”.”

Wasim Akram’s statue recently went viral after its installation, receiving criticism from cricket fans for its lack of resemblance to the former fast bowler. Many pointed out that the statue’s face does not match Wasim Akram’s and likened it to a Hollywood action hero.

In response to the feedback, Akram stated that the focus should be on the concept rather than the final shape. He added that the sculptor deserves credit for the effort and those involved should be appreciated.
The statue depicts Wasim Akram in his bowling action wearing the 1999 ICC World Cup jersey. Despite the intention, fans expressed dissatisfaction with the execution, which sparked debate across social media platforms.

Wasim Akram played international cricket for Pakistan from 1984 to 2003. He took 414 wickets in Test matches and 502 wickets in ODIs. He was a key player in Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup win and also captained the national team in the 1999 World Cup, where Pakistan reached the final.
