Former Olympian Tauqeer Dar has been approached for men’s national hockey team coaching.

Tauqeer Dar asked to coach Pakistan hockey team, after Dutchman Roelant Oltmans resigned from the post. However, he was included in the Pakistan team that won 1984 Summer Olympics.

Tauqeer Dar revealed that he has been asked by the team manager Hasan Sardar to assume the coaching responsibilities. He said that he has good relations with Hasan Sardar and he can’t refuse him.

Dar said that he will discuss with Hasan Sardar after the ongoing Asian Hockey Champions Trophy. He further added that he will first try to persuade the manager to not appoint him as the coach. However, if he does not agree then Taufeeq himself will take on the coaching responsibilities.

Acording to sources, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will formally announce Taufeeq’s appointment as the head coach once the talks are finalized.
