The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is experiencing financial problems despite its support of Pro Hockey League at a sum of Rs 250 million. The PHF has not been able to afford to pay daily allowances to players, and to raise finances to continue tournaments has remained a problem.
In one of the editions of the Pro Hockey League, the Pakistan Hockey Federation needs an extra sum of Rs 100 million. It is reported that the federation is finding it hard to make the necessary arrangements to get the funds, and this puts future events in question.
In 2025, the Pakistan hockey team would play the World Cup Qualifiers and Asian Champions Trophy. The team will also participate in the World Cup in case it qualifies in addition to the Asian Games. The schedule also consists of participation in the Olympic Qualifiers.
In addition to senior team commitments, invitational events, junior hockey tournaments, and age-group competitions are part of the calendar. For these events, the Pakistan Hockey Federation needs Rs 300 to 350 million annually. Overall, the PHF requires at least Rs 450 million for the year 2025.
Sources stated that if the Pakistan Hockey Federation fails to prove its financial ability, it may again have to depend on government support. The high funding requirement has placed PHF under significant financial pressure.
