Samina Baig Becomes First Pakistani to Ski to the South Pole

Samina Baig, a Pakistani mountaineer, becomes the first person in history to ski to the Geographic South Pole. On December 14, 2025, she made the last 111-kilometer trip across Antarctica. The feat makes her one of the few international explorers in the world and the first in Pakistan.

Samina Baig stands as the first Pakistani to ski to the South Pole. She reached the Earth’s southernmost point just days ago and completed a feat no Pakistani had attempted before.

The expedition ended on December 14. Samina skied the “Last Degree” to the South Pole. The distance measured around 111 kilometers. The route crossed Antarctica’s toughest ice fields. She carried the Pakistani flag the entire way.

Samina left Pakistan on December 2. She reached Union Glacier on December 6. Eight days later, she arrived at the Geographic South Pole. Elite Exped organized the mission. Renowned mountaineer Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja led the expedition team.

This achievement pushes Samina Baig closer to the Explorer’s Grand Slam. The goal combines the Seven Summits with journeys to both poles. Samina has already climbed the highest peaks on every continent. The South Pole ski adds a key chapter to that record.

Speaking on December 17, Samina called the journey one of the hardest of her life. She said carrying Pakistan’s flag across polar ice gave the mission deep meaning.

Her career already holds major firsts. Samina Baig summited Mount Everest in 2013. She climbed K2 in 2022. She reached Nanga Parbat in 2023. No other Pakistani woman has matched this list.
