The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT) finalized the Personal Data Protection Bill 2018.
According to Personal Data Protection Bill 2018, the misusing of anyone’s personal data will lead to heavy fine and imprisonment. There would be a Rs 5 million fine along with the 2 years imprisonment. The bill’s objectives reveal that the technological advancement made it easier for cyber-criminals to collect the personal data through several ways.
The Personal Data Protection Bill 2018 further elaborated that the personal data is a huge valuable commodity. Several organizations use it for the operations and growth of their business. In addition, the data usually collected, processed, and sold without the knowledge and consent of people.
However, companies utilize data for several purposes such as targeted advertising, promotional, and marketing activities. However, cyber-criminals use them for blackmailing, scamming, behavior modification, and other purposes.
