According to the official sources of the party, Altaf Hussain, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founder admitted at a London hospital on July 11, 2025, following a serious illness. The condition caused mass speculation surrounding his health including rumors of his death being posted online via social sites such as X.
MQM leaders Mustafa Azizabadi and Qasim Ali Raza verified that Hussain has been taken through several medical tests, such as blood tests, ECG, CT scan, X-ray, and ultrasound besides blood transfusion. They said the hospitalization was due to stress caused by constant legal challenges in the UK, financial issues, and political tension regarding the internal and foreign policies of Pakistan.

MQM Denies Death Rumors
On July 10, 2025, A social media account named @JN_Araain claimed that Hussain had died or were in a medically induced coma. This was then followed with more reports by accounts such as @mujhecryaraha and @news24tvchannel that he was in ICU on critical condition. Nevertheless, MQM clarified on the 12th of July 2025, that Hussain is alive and receiving medical attention. Other statements verifying the statement of the party were also given by @PakistanCheck And @MurtazaViews who termed the reports of deaths as fake news.
Azizabadi stated that Hussain’s condition had improved and that treatment was ongoing. He added that while the situation was serious, it was not critical. This was supported by independent health status updates shared by verified sources on X, advising the public to rely on MQM’s official statements.
In March 2025, Lahore High Court resumed proceedings on a 2015 petition seeking a ban on Hussain’s media coverage. His 2016 speech, which included disrespectful remarks about Pakistan, led to an existing ban, which remains in effect.
MQM was established by Altaf Hussain in 1984 to serve the interest of an Muhajir community who spoke Urdu. Since the year 1992, he resides in London and is a British citizen. Even after the internal party rifts and media censorship, he is still able to sway the Muhajir politics through online addresses, especially in TikTok.
