Indian YouTuber Finds Made in Pakistan Jacket at Harvard

Harvard University’s merchandise is sparking discussions online after Indian YouTuber Ishan Sharma discovered a “Made in Pakistan” tag on a Harvard-branded jacket during his visit to the university.

While touring Harvard University, Sharma stopped by The Harvard Shop, the official student-run store, to pick up some souvenirs. Among the merchandise, he found a Harvard jacket with a label indicating it was made in Pakistan, priced at approximately Rs. 12,000. Surprised by this discovery, Sharma took to social media, posting photos of himself wearing the jacket and expressing his astonishment: “Came to Harvard to buy merch. This one’s Rs. 12,000! But made in Pakistan?!”

His post quickly went viral, especially within the South Asian community, where it generated a mix of humor and intrigue. Reactions poured in on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), with users commenting on the irony of an Indian visiting an American university and purchasing a jacket made in Pakistan. One user humorously remarked, “Indian travels to America only to purchase clothes made in Pakistan—quite the twist.” Another added, “Even Harvard is outsourcing to Asia.”

However, not all comments were light-hearted. Some users criticized the quality of the merchandise, with one commenter stating, “The quality is awful. I bought a few items last year and after just 2-3 washes, they were only good for mopping the floor.” This critique points to a broader issue of Western markets, including prestigious institutions like Harvard, sourcing clothing from South Asia, particularly from countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Sharma’s discovery has added to the global conversation about the international nature of fashion and retail. It also highlights the interconnectedness of global supply chains, where products sold in elite institutions may originate from unexpected places.
