Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi made forceful speeches in the Indian Parliament Lok Sabha about recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor. Topics of the debate were the source of the ceasefire, the allegation of foreign intervention, and the decision of the military.
Modi stated in the Lok Sabha that the decision on the ceasefire was taken by India alone; there was no foreign hand or mediation. He rejected the statements of the US President Donald Trump about helping to settle the disputes between India and Pakistan. Modi claimed that the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan called India and asked to stop the operation and Said, Bas karo, bahut maara.
Modi said Indian forces intercepted nearly 1,000 missiles and drones launched from Pakistan during Operation Sindoor on May 9, 2025. He clarified that India hit only terrorist infrastructure and avoided military escalation.
In response, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the government for limiting the military’s response. He questioned why the Defence Minister stated the operation lasted only 22 minutes and said India communicated to Pakistan that it would not escalate the conflict. Gandhi termed this a political move and demanded the Prime Minister reject President Trump’s statements in Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi also raised concerns about transparency, accused the Modi government of restricting military operations to protect Modi’s political image, and highlighted the growing Pakistan-China alliance in the region.
