Dr. Adnan A. Hyder, a Pakistani-origin expert in global health appointed as the new Dean of Boston University School of Public Health. He will become official on August 15, 2025, after leaving the Milken Institute School of Public Health of George Washington University.
Hyder has served as Senior Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at GWU and Professor of Global Health since 2018. He led key initiatives including the NIH-Fogarty global health training grant, launch of the Office of PhD and MS Studies, Research Support Team for Public Health & Law, and the Center on Commercial Determinants of Health.

Dr. Hyder graduated with an MBBS degree at Aga Khan University (1990), MPH and PhD in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. He has worked before in Johns Hopkins Bloomberg school of public health and Berman institute of bioethics. He is the author of more than 350 peer-reviewed articles and experience in working with the global health systems, ethics, injury prevention, and non-communicable diseases in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
This appointment highlights the rising global role of Pakistani medical professionals and researchers in the U.S. academic sector.
