Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has left for Lisbon to attend the funeral of Prince Karim Aga Khan, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, who passed away on February 4 at the age of 88. The Ministry of Finance stated that Aurangzeb will represent Pakistan at the funeral, following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directives.
Prince Karim Aga Khan, the 49th Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, was renowned for his extensive philanthropic work through the Aga Khan Development Network, focusing on health, education, and cultural projects across various countries. His contributions have left a lasting impact on communities worldwide.
The Government of Pakistan has declared February 8 as a national day of mourning in honor of Prince Karim Aga Khan’s passing. On this day, the national flag will be flown at half-mast across the country.
The funeral in Lisbon is expected to be a solemn event with limited attendance, adhering to the family’s wishes. Photography and videography have been prohibited to maintain the sanctity of the ceremony.
