A shocking statement by UP Minister Sanjay Nishad has ignited a firestorm across India and Pakistan. Defending CM Bihar Nitish Kumar after he pulled down a Muslim woman’s hijab, Nishad made remarks that many call a new low in political discourse.
While the world condemned the Nitish Kumar controversy, Sanjay Nishad took a different turn. Speaking to Bharat Samachar, he laughed off the incident. He claimed the CM was only verifying the doctor’s identity.
Prominently, he told the media:
“He is not pulling the hijab; he is removing it to check if the appointment letter is being given to the correct person… People shouldn’t make a fuss about this. After all, he is also a man… Just touching the naqab caused such an uproar… what would have happened if he had touched somewhere else?“
The “touched somewhere else” remark has triggered national outrage. Critics slam it as a “vile and misogynistic” mindset. Samajwadi Party leader Sumaiya Rana has already moved the Lucknow police. She filed a complaint against both Sanjay Nishad and Nitish Kumar, CM Bihar.
Rana argues that such words incite religious hatred and insult the modesty of all women. She is seeking an FIR under Sections 153A and 354 of the IPC.
Nishad’s Clarification
As of today, Sanjay Nishad has tried to backtrack. He claims his comments were “casual” and spoken in a local dialect. He withdrew his words after seeing the massive backlash from women’s rights groups and opposition parties.
The Nitish Kumar CM Bihar incident continues to trend as a symbol of power being used to humiliate. Many now demand a public apology from the entire NDA leadership.
Nitish Kumar controversy began when on December 16, CM of Bihar Nitish Kumar pulled down a Muslim woman doctor’s niqab during an appointment letter event in Patna.
