Australia recognizes West Jerusalem as Israel capital, Morrison revealed

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison revealed that Australia officially recognizes West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Australia recognizes West Jerusalem as the Israel capital after reversing decades of its Middle East policy. However, they will not move the embassy on the immediate basis.

Australian PM Scott Morrison said that they recognizes West Jerusalem, as seat of Knesset and several institutions of government, is the Israel’s capital. He further added that they are looking forward to shift embassy to West Jerusalem when practical.

In October, Scott Morrison revealed that he has no issue to shift Australia’s embassy from Tel Aviv to West Jerusalem. However, the US President Donald Trump decision to shift the US embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv delighted Israel.

Jerusalem status, the home to sites holy to the Muslim, Jewish and Christian faiths, is one of the biggest obstacles to a peace agreement between Israel and Palestinians who want East Jerusalem recognized as the capital of a Palestinian state.
