On Monday, a Bangladesh Air Force training plane crashed into a building belonging to a college in Dhaka, killing 19 people, according to official reports. The accident led to issues with the safety of aviation and emergency preparedness in cities.
Bangladesh media said the training jet took off at 1:06 PM local time but crashed in the Uttara section of Dhaka later. The plane crashed into a building in a college which sparked a fire that resulted to serious damages on the building structure. The rescue teams rushed to the scene and started the evacuation and relief procedure.
The Bangladesh military confirmed that the aircraft involved in the Bangladesh plane crash was an F-7 BGI training jet. No official information has been released regarding the pilot’s condition.
Early reports indicated the death of one person, but this figure was later confirmed by new reports that showed that 19 people died. Some of them were also mildly injured and took to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for treatment.
The crash site in Dhaka was guarded as officials kept on investigating the cause of the crash. This plane crash in Bangladesh contributes to an increasing number of aviation-related accidents in the region and has already caused the consideration to a review of training flight safety protocols over cities.
