Christian Michel James, the British middleman held for the chopper deal in India on Wednesday (yesterday).
In the chopper deal in India, British middleman Christian Michel James was arrested and remanded in custody. However, according to sources, he was extradited from UAE.
Michel is accused of arranging kickbacks to some Indian officials to secure the deal. However, the deal was for AgustaWestland to supply India with 12 advanced helicopters for $630 million (556 million euros).
Christian Michel James appeared in the strict security after his arrival from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday. Initially, he will remain in the police custody for 5 days. However, he will be allowed to meet with his lawyer twice a day for one hour in this duration.
Britain´s Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesperson said that the staff continues the support to the British man’s family who is currently detained in India. The statement further added that they are in contact with the family and are also seeking access to him from the concerned authorities.
