An earthquake of magnitude 5.7 hit the southern region of Iran early on Tuesday morning, with the epicentre in and around Kerman Province near the Panag and Bam regions. German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported the quake as being located at 08:36 AM local time (05:06 UTC); its depth was 10 km.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and other seismic networks also reported the event with a slightly lower magnitude of 5.6 Mw, confirming shallow depth and regional impact.
No confirmed casualties or property damage have been reported so far. However, emergency response teams in Kerman were placed on alert. The Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) classified the event as having low humanitarian impact based on population exposure and seismic intensity.
The incident comes after a row of more than 160 earthquakes registered in Iran between July 26 and August 1, 2025, and several moderate shaking have been recorded in the region. The area has a history of seismic occurrences in Kerman Province such as the Bam 2003 earthquake.
