Taliban representatives and United States diplomats met for talks at the United Arab Emirates on Monday (yesterday).
US Taliban talks are aided by Pakistan and officials from Pakistan, UAE, and Saudi Arabia also attended the meeting. Dr Mohammad Faisal, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesman revealed about the beginning of US Taliban talks. However, no statements were came from participating parties at the end of the meeting.
It was the third talks between the US authorities and Taliban since the Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad’s appointment as US special envoy for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan. However, the last talk continued for 3 days.
In any case, it was the first talk supported by Pakistan and furthermore the first outside Doha which has Taliban’s political office and which hosted earlier 2 talks. Analysts believe that this meeting was arranged outside Qatar to underscore Pakistan’s job in organizing it and in the meantime permitting interest of the UAE and Saudi Arabia, both of whom had a year ago cut political ties with Qatar.
