Global Sumud Flotilla Gaza Intercepted: Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Detained

Israeli forces intercepted multiple vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla Gaza on 1–2 October 2025, detaining more than 150 people from different countries. They include Senator Mushtaq Ahmed, the head of the Pakistan delegation. According to the flotilla tracker, only one observer boat was allowed to escape and the rest were diverted into the ports of Israel.

According to the latest Sumud Flotilla update, the fleet of more than 40 vessels carrying 500 participants was stopped in international waters. Reports confirm that activists, parliamentarians, and humanitarian workers were on board. The Global Sumud Flotilla tracker live indicates that several ships are still unaccounted for.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed detentions and released a video showing climate activist Greta Thunberg on board one of the intercepted boats, claiming she is “safe.”

Pakistan’s government has officially demanded the release of Senator Mushtaq Ahmed and other detainees. The Pakistan-Palestine Forum announced protests in Islamabad and Lahore against the interception of the flotilla Gaza convoy.

Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Malaysia called on Israel to avoid harming flotilla participants. Colombia went further by expelling Israeli diplomats and suspending a trade agreement. Italian unions also announced a general strike in solidarity with Gaza.

Organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla Gaza confirmed that the fleet had entered a “high-risk zone” 150 nautical miles from Gaza, the same area where past flotillas were stopped. The Global Flotilla Tracker and Sumud Flotilla Live feeds continue to monitor the remaining ships.

According to the Global Sumud Flotilla tracker, there are imprisoned activists awaiting legal processes within Israel, but some of the vessels are still at sea. The success of the Global Sumud Flotilla will lie in the diplomatic pressure and the capability to reach Gaza with more ships without interception.
