The Maldives has announced a ban on Israeli tourists, expressing solidarity with the Palestinians, as confirmed by the Presidential Office in Malé.
In a significant policy shift, the Maldives has decided to ban the entry of Israeli passport holders. This decision, made by the cabinet, is part of the island nation’s stance in support of the Palestinian cause. A special envoy will also be appointed to lead the Maldives’ aid campaign for Palestine.
The ban was confirmed by the Presidential Office in Malé, signaling a strong political statement amidst ongoing global tensions. This move reflects the Maldives’ commitment to backing Palestinian rights and addressing the current humanitarian situation.
Despite the Maldives being a popular tourist destination, last year only 11,000 Israeli tourists visited the islands. This figure highlights that the ban, while symbolic, may have a limited direct impact on the Maldives’ tourism industry, which attracts millions of visitors annually.
