Riyadh: United States President Donald Trump ignored the country’s leverage over Saudi Arabia after the Jamal Khashoggi murder.
Donald Trump after Jamal Khashoggi murder, doubled down on the partnership with Riyadh. However, he called them the indispensable partner after the Saudi journalist’s murder. On the other side, critics believe that Trump’s position ignores the huge leverage of the United States over Saudi Arabia.
On Tuesday, Donald Trump provided Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman a pass in Jamal Khashoggi murder case. However, Central Intelligence Agency or CIA reported that the Saudi Ruler had ordered the killing.
Donald Trump was widely pilloried for what critics called his mercantile priorities that made him appear more like a lobbyist for Saudi Arabia, raising the prospect of strong congressional action against Riyadh.
But Donald Trump’s firm backing of Riyadh in the face of global outrage reinforced what officials in Saudi Arabia often say: the US-Saudi relationship is too big to fail.
