King Salman Gate Makkah Project Announced to Welcome 900,000 Worshippers

Saudi Arabia has launched the King Salman Gate Makkah project, a major multi-use urban development located next to Al-Masjid Al-Haram, aimed at improving access and services around the Grand Mosque, the Ministry of Investment confirmed on Wednesday.

The project is expanded to 12 million square metres in floor area. The King Salman gate comes under the Pilgrim Experience programme under Saudi Vision 2030 to enhance pilgrimage in Makkah.

King Salman Gate Makkah to Enhance Pilgrim Access and City Infrastructure

The King Salman Gate Makkah will feature residential, hospitality, commercial, and cultural amenities, serving approximately 900,000 indoor and outdoor worshippers. It will come with in-built transport connections so that people will have easy accessibility to Al-Masjid Al-Haram and the rest of the city.

The project will also reclaim and conserve approximately 19, 000 square metres of heritage sites that will merge the Makkah culture and integrated with contemporary urban architecture and enhancing the infrastructure and accessibility within the central district.

The project is set to generate more than 300 000 jobs by the year 2036 with a view of supporting overall economic diversification of Saudi Arabia and the sustainable planning of cities.

The goal of the company is to enhance sustainable urban development in the areas surrounding the Grand Mosque, and maintain the historical and cultural character of Makkah but develop the infrastructure and improve the quality of services.

In line with the Saudi Vision 2030, the King Salman Gate Makkah project will be an international paradigm in city planning in residential destinations. It focuses on making it more accessible, delivering more effective services to the population, and generally making it easier to the millions of pilgrims who visit every year.
