A Mossad agent was executed in Iran by hanging after being convicted of espionage and national security-related crimes, according to Iranian judiciary reports.
The individual, arrested in December 2023, found guilty of providing sensitive and classified intelligence to Mossad operatives, including details related to strategic locations and individuals. Iran’s Supreme Court upheld the conviction following a complete judicial process, including trial and appeals.
The charges included espionage, cooperation with hostile intelligence services, and “corruption on Earth” (efsad-fil-arz), a capital offense under Iranian law. The convict was also accused of “waging war against God” (moharebeh), which carries the death penalty.
Iranian officials stated that the execution was carried out as part of ongoing efforts to protect national security and prevent intelligence breaches by foreign agencies.
This was the third execution in recent weeks of individuals charged with spying for Israel. Previously, two others were hanged on similar charges, including one linked to the 2022 assassination of an Iranian Revolutionary Guard colonel.
The incident comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, with both countries launching missile and airstrikes over the past several days. Iran has framed the executions as a warning against foreign espionage operations on its soil.
Authorities also reported the recent arrest of two more alleged Mossad agents, who were found with explosives, drones, and missile components. Investigations into their activities are ongoing.
