Texas Shooting: Funeral Prayers for Sabika Sheikh Offered in Houston


Houston: Funeral Prayers for Pakistani student Sabika Sheikh offered at the Houston’s mosque.

Sabika Sheikh was among 10 people who were died in the Texas school shooting. Yesterday, her funeral prayers were performed after Zuhr Prayer at the Houston’s local mosque. Pakistani Consulate in Houston organized the funeral service at Sugar Land’s Masjid Sabireen. However, another funeral service will be held in Karachi, Pakistan.

A large number of people from all walks of life attended the funeral. Pakistani officials, US Congress members, Pakistani diaspora members, students of Santa Fe High School attended the funeral.

Sylvester Turner, the Mayor of Houston, said that they have to change policies and laws for the protection of schools. He further added that more children will become victim if we will fail to do so. Sylvester Turner said that Sabika Sheikh was not just the Sheikh’s child but, she was also one of their children. He also thanked Pakistan Counsel General for inviting him on the funeral. On Friday, a gunman killed 10 people including Sabika Sheikh at Santa Fe High School in Texas. However, she went the US through the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) education program.
