The Swedish Academy Delayed 2018 Nobel Literature Prize After 70 Years

Stockholm: The Swedish Academy postponed 2018 Nobel Literature Prize for the 1st time in around seventy years.

The decision was made due to the connection with a person who is allegedly involved in the sexual assault and rape. However, the Swedish Academy decided to announce the 2018 Nobel Literature Prize winner along with the 2019 laureate. The Swedish Academy reserved prize on seven occasions. However, the last incident happened around 70 years back in 1949.

The Swedish academy came under fire last year when testimonies of 18 women were published in the Swedish newspaper. However, these testimonies were related to the accusations of rape, sexual assault, and harassment. The Swedish Academy member, Jean-Claude Arnault was named as accused in testimonies.
