Federal Government’s Major Initiative: Introducing Astronomy to School Children
In a pioneering effort to enhance scientific education, the federal government has announced a comprehensive plan to introduce school children to the fascinating field of astronomy. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Education, aims to integrate space technology and astronomical studies into the curriculum of public schools in Islamabad.
Large Telescopes to be Installed in Schools
The Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mohiuddin Wani, has directed the installation of large telescopes in various schools across Islamabad. This move is part of a broader strategy to foster a deeper interest in science among young students. The first phase of this initiative will see a large telescope installed on a trial basis in one school, providing a unique opportunity for students to observe the moon on May 27th.
Exciting Observation Sessions Planned
Students from 10 to 12 public schools will participate in these observation sessions, scheduled for the night of May 27th from 9:00 PM to 10:30 PM. During these sessions, students will have the chance to observe the moon, stars, and other celestial objects through the telescope. Teachers and parents also encouraged to join in, making it a community event aimed at fostering a shared interest in astronomy.
In addition to nighttime observations, the program includes daytime activities where children will use solar glasses to safely observe the sun. This dual approach ensures that students gain a comprehensive understanding of both daytime and nighttime celestial phenomena.
