Emergency Rescue 1122 Service to Launch on Motorways in December 2024

In a significant move towards enhancing emergency services, the Punjab government has announced the launch of the Emergency Rescue 1122 service on Motorways. Slated for a December rollout, this initiative will see the University of Health Sciences (UHS) playing a pivotal role in training the rescue personnel.

The announcement was made by Khawaja Salman Rafique, the Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education, during a meeting at UHS. Highlighting the untapped potential of universities as think tanks, Rafique emphasized the need for continual collaboration with UHS.

During his visit to the UHS facilitation center, Rafique interacted with students and expressed appreciation for the services provided. He noted the center’s capacity to serve hundreds of students daily and commended the presence of 32 Ph.D. faculty members at UHS. He also suggested increasing this number and announced plans to visit the university’s new campus in the coming week.

Vice Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, while thanking the minister for his visit, shared that the facilitation center serves 300 to 400 students and visitors daily. As the university’s first point of contact, the center provides services related to degrees, registration, and examinations. He also highlighted the state-of-the-art equipment in the university laboratories and their potential to become centers of excellence in diagnostic services. With government support, these laboratories could serve as a referral lab for all of Punjab, he opined.

Professor Rathore further emphasized the role of UHS in standardizing medical, dental, and nursing education. He advocated for the separation of allied health sciences and pharmacy education from general universities to achieve similar standardization.
