The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) has issued a warning regarding a low-pressure system forming in the Arabian Sea, which could potentially evolve into a tropical cyclone and affect Pakistan’s coastal regions, including Karachi. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that the system is currently near the Lakshadweep Valley and is expected to move northwestward.
Cyclone Could Hit Karachi in October
According to early forecasts, the storm may make landfall along the Pakistani coastline by the third week of October 2024. The trajectory and intensity of the system remain uncertain, but there is a significant possibility that Karachi and other coastal areas could be impacted.
Citizens Advised to Stay Alert
The NDMA has advised residents of Karachi and other coastal regions to remain updated with official notifications and weather advisories. “Citizens and stakeholders, particularly those residing in coastal regions, are urged to stay informed of any developments and take necessary precautions as the situation unfolds,” stated an NDMA official.
The NDMA continues to monitor the system in collaboration with relevant departments, ensuring timely updates as more information becomes available.
As Karachi potentially faces another severe weather event, authorities are urging preparedness and vigilance. Stay tuned for further updates as the low-pressure system progresses.
