Punjab Announces Annual Vehicle Fitness Tests for Private Cars

PUNJAB: Officials say there are currently only 13 fitness testing centres available to inspect millions of vehicles across Punjab. The limited number of facilities could result in overcrowding and delays for citizens seeking fitness certificates.

Under the new requirement, private vehicle owners will have to get their vehicles tested for roadworthiness every year and obtain a valid fitness certificate.

Motorists found driving without the required certificate could initially face a fine. Continued non-compliance may result in the vehicle being impounded, according to details reported about the measure.

More Than 9,000 Private Cars Already Checked

According to the Punjab Transport Authority, more than 9,000 private vehicles have already undergone inspection through the PVICS system. Vehicle owners who successfully clear the inspection will receive a QR-coded fitness sticker and certificate valid for one year. The certification fee will vary by vehicle category, ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 2,000.
