The government plans to remove the current 12-tier gas pricing system and introduce a single, uniform rate for all consumers
This major shift is part of ongoing economic reforms agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund. Under the new plan, the current cross-subsidy system will end.
To protect vulnerable households, the government will shift protected consumers to direct, income based cash subsidies instead of utility price cuts.
Government officials and IMF representatives will discuss and finalize the exact timeline for ending cross subsidies and launching the single gas tariff during the IMF’s fourth review. The is to take place in September and October 2026.
