HBL PSL 8: Faheem Ashraf’s incredible knock leads Islamabad United to victory against the Sultan

In Rawalpindi stadium, Faheem Ashraf would be remembered as he chased an incredible score against the sultan. He snatched an impossible victory from the Multan sultan on Tuesday night.

In this PSL no team has chased 18 runs in the final over. The scales seemed to tip in the sultan’s favor but Faheem showed his spectacular performance shots off the first two deliveries. The first two deliveries were made over Muhammad Ilyas for four and then took a six on the Yorker ball.

Ilyas could give an ironic smile before hitting a four in the fourth ball of over. Faheem completed a two-wicket victory with another four off the final delivery.

A third win took united to the second of the point table list. The top team is Lahore Qalandar only behind the defending champions on net run rate. Sultan losing a third straight defeat leaves them in third on eight points. Sultan needs two wins to confirm their place in the final four. Australian player Tim David makes his first attempt this season. Sultan’s made 205-5 after then David makes 60 for 27 deliveries and the opener was Shan Masood making 75.

It seemed difficult for United to chase when Shadab khan got out by Ihsanullah in the 15th over for a 25 ball 44 runs. United was left with 67 runs in the last 5 overs. The players were Asif Ali and Mubashir khan leaving space for seven deliveries.

Faheem and Muhammad Wasim Jr inspired the whole team with their performance making a quickfire 16 before Anwar Ali got lbw out in the concluding overs. Sultan was near victory but only Faheem make it impossible for them.

Muhammad Rizwan was confident at the start of the match and smashed three sixes in 18 balls 33 runs two to Faheem on the leg side and one to Fazal Haq Farooqi with an uppercut. Sultan Skipper got out soon by Shadab khan at the end of Powerplay. Shan Masood made a good start after the out of Rizwan charging at Mubashir Khan and getting his fourth and fifth boundaries in eight overs. Shan was hitting nice shorts to Wasim Jr smashing three boundaries in the 12th over. It bought the first up-half-century for the openers. Shadab got out very soon but Faheem got a way for unity to victory.
