North Korea has denied US allegations linking it to a $6.3 billion cryptocurrency theft from Binance.
Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, rejected the FBI’s claims on Tuesday. She called the accusation “Nonsense Argument” and a political provocation against North Korea.
The statement appeared in North Korea’s state media, Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
Kim accused the United States of misleading the world by blaming North Korea for cybercrime. She also said Washington was trying to damage the country’s international image.
FBI Links Binance Theft to North Korean Hackers
The FBI accused North Korea of carrying out the Binance theft over the weekend.
According to the agency, a North Korean hacking group called TraderTraitor was behind the attack. The group has also been linked to other cryptocurrency thefts.
The FBI said the hackers were moving stolen funds into Ethereum. It also urged companies to block transactions linked to the stolen assets. North Korea has denied involvement in past cybercrime allegations. The country has also rejected claims linking its hackers to cryptocurrency thefts.
Binance Works to Recover Stolen Funds
Binance has started efforts to cover the losses from the theft. The cryptocurrency exchange said it had secured funds to cover about 95% of the stolen assets. It used its own funds and other reserves to support the recovery. Binance also worked with partners to freeze around $3 billion in stolen assets.
The FBI’s accusation remains disputed by North Korea. The country has rejected the claim and called it politically motivated.
