Commuters and businesses across Pakistan face a mixed bag at the pumps this week. While petrol prices might see a negligible dip, high-speed diesel and other fuels are geared for a significant hike.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) just finalized its latest price adjustment working. Sources indicate a sharp Rs. 9.47 per litre increase for high-speed diesel. This specific hike often triggers a domino effect on transport costs and food inflation.
Meanwhile, light diesel oil is expected to rise by Rs. 6.95 per litre. Those relying on kerosene oil for domestic use should prepare for a Rs. 3.69 per litre jump.
In a rare bit of “relief,” petrol prices might actually drop. However, the projected decrease is a mere 36 paisas per litre. This marginal change likely won’t offset the rising costs of other petroleum products.
The Petroleum Division receives the formal summary tomorrow. From there, the proposal goes to the Prime Minister for final approval. We expect the official notification on January 31, with new rates taking effect at midnight on February 1.
Keep a close eye on the official announcement. These fluctuations directly impact the cost of logistics and daily commuting across the country.
