Pakistan Petrol Pump Strike: Fuel Stations to Shut Nationwide from 12 AM

The Pakistan petrol pump strike has created uncertainty for motorists after the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association announced an indefinite nationwide shutdown. According to the association, petrol pumps across the country will close from 12:00 a.m. tonight following the failure of negotiations with the federal government.

The decision follows talks between the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association and the Federal Minister for Petroleum which ended with no agreement. Dealers’ profit margin and the suggested implementation of daily petroleum price revisions were not resolved successfully in the discussions, the association said.

The association in its official release instructed petrol pump owners across the country to join the boycott and shut petrol stations in protest until their demands are fulfilled. It also called on the government to take a positive and pragmatic call on the legitimate demands of petrol pump owners to prevent disruptions.

The Pakistan petrol pump strike, however, does not have a universal backing throughout the country. There has been a rift between the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association and the Karachi Petrol Dealers Association, with the latter saying that for now, they will not join the strike as the former is based in Punjab.

Dealers have claimed that the government has assuaged them that their concerns will be placed on the board and given one week’s time to resolve the issues. The Petroleum Dealers Association executive committee is meeting today to review the latest developments and decide on action.
