Pakistan has received its second liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Qatar this month under a long-term supply agreement. Ministry of Energy sources say contracted Qatari gas costs around half as much as LNG purchased from the international spot market.
The LNG carrier EJNAN arrived from Qatar and berthed at Pakistan GasPort Terminal on October 20, according to terminal officials. The first Qatari cargo of October arrived at Engro Elengy Terminal on October 13.
Qatari LNG Costs Less Than Spot-Market Gas
Ministry of Energy sources put the price of gas from Qatari cargoes at around $14 to $15 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). In comparison, LNG prices in the spot market can reach $30 per MMBtu.
The long-term agreement therefore gives Pakistan access to gas at a lower cost than the reported spot-market price. The difference matters as Pakistan manages its energy import bill and gas requirements.
LNG Shipments Remain Below Last Year
Pakistan received two LNG cargoes from Qatar in October, compared with eight during the same month in 2025, according to data cited from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority.
The decline follows disruptions to LNG supplies amid the conflict in the Middle East. Pakistan has relied on contracted Qatari shipments while facing higher costs and uncertainty in the spot market.
The latest delivery adds to Pakistan’s available imported gas supplies. Although the reduced number of cargoes highlights the pressure on the country’s LNG supply chain.
