Pakistan Sends First Batch of Dry Chillies to China

In a groundbreaking development, Sindh, under the leadership of Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Maqbool Baqar, has emerged as the powerhouse behind 80% of Pakistan’s chilli production, totaling a staggering 144,000 metric tons. This revelation came to light during the momentous ceremony commemorating the First Shipment of Dried Chilies exported from Pakistan to China, a significant milestone achieved through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Agricultural Project.

Kunri Research Institute developed high-yielding chillies (Kunri-I & Nageena) with 25-30% more yield and vibrant color, boosting Agriculture Department’s role.

Dignitaries including China’s Consul General and Pakistan’s Food Minister attended a ceremony showcasing potential of Sindh’s fertile lands and recorded messages from Chinese Ambassador.

Acknowledging the transformative impact of partnerships, Justice Baqar drew attention to the achievements of Chinese Agri-products company, Sichuan Litong. He expressed optimism about elevating the agricultural landscape, creating tangible benefits for farmers, and fostering cross-cultural understanding through collaborative efforts.

Revealing that Sindh contributes about 80% to the national chilli production, Justice Baqar disclosed major chilli growing districts, including Umarkot, Badin, Mirpurkhas, and others. He stressed the vast potential for trade, cooperation, and industry-level partnerships between China and Pakistan.

Looking ahead, Justice Baqar extended best wishes for the inaugural chilli shipment to China, considering it a symbolic realization of collaborative efforts. He praised the efforts of Sichuan Litong Company, the Chinese Embassy, and key departments in Sindh for their instrumental roles.

Justice Baqar highlighted the enduring bond between Pak-China, citing initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative and CPEC as evidence of a lasting friendship. He noted that the collaborative endeavors showcased the strength of the ties between the two nations.

In a sign of the strong partnership, Chinese company Sichuan Litong will build two chilli processing plants in Hyderabad and Faisalabad next year, strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
