Petrol and Diesel Prices in Pakistan: Updates and Taxation Details

In Pakistan, the current retail price for petrol stands at 161 rupees per liter, while diesel is priced slightly higher at 166 rupees per liter. These rates have a significant impact on the country’s transportation sector and general cost of living.

According to official documents, the government imposes taxes on petrol and diesel to cover various expenses. For every liter of petrol, a tax of 91 rupees and 36 paise is applied, while diesel attracts a tax of 87 rupees and 49 paise per liter. These taxes play a crucial role in determining the final consumer price of these fuels.

When it comes to refined fuels, petrol subjected to refining processes incurs additional taxes of 71 rupees and 83 paise per liter. Similarly, refined diesel carries taxes amounting to 67 rupees and 96 paise per liter. These refined products are expected to meet certain quality standards, resulting in slightly higher costs for consumers.

It is worth noting the ex-refinery prices of petrol and diesel, which represent the rates at which refineries sell these fuels. The ex-refinery price for petrol stands at 181 rupees and 70 paise, while diesel’s ex-refinery price is slightly higher, at 190 rupees and 21 paise. These rates play a significant role in determining the retail prices at fuel stations across the country.

Prior to the refining process, both petrol and diesel undergo taxation, with taxes amounting to 19 rupees and 53 paise applied to each liter. These taxes contribute to the overall cost structure and influence the final retail price for consumers.
