PM Shehbaz Seeks Investment from Rothschild & Co, JP Morgan, and Other Global Firms

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met senior executives of five global financial institutions in London on September 29 and invited them to expand investment and financial services in Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held separate meetings with executives from JP Morgan, Barclays, Citi, BlackRock and Rothschild & Co in London on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the meetings focused on Pakistan’s economic reforms, investment opportunities and financial-sector cooperation.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatization Muhammad Ali also attended the meetings.
Talks With Global Financial Firms
JP Morgan Delegation: Led by Matthieu Wiltz (Co-CEO For Europe, Middle East and Africa)
PM Shehbaz invited JP Morgan to expand its presence in Pakistan. The two sides discussed capital markets, trade finance and investment banking. The PMO said the JP Morgan delegation reaffirmed its interest in sovereign debt capital markets and corporate banking.
Rothschild & Co: Represented by Lord Mark Sedwill (Chair of Geostrategic Advisory) and Majid Ishaq (Head of UK Investment Banking)
The meeting with Rothschild & Co focused on Pakistan’s geo-economic priorities. The sides also discussed possible advisory cooperation on capital markets and investment strategy.
Barclays: Mohammad Kamal Syed (Head of Private Bank and Wealth Management UK)
At Barclays, Shehbaz briefed Mohammad Kamal Syed on the government’s macroeconomic stabilization measures. He encouraged the bank to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s financial sector.
Citi: Led by David Livingstone (Chief Client Officer)
Shehbaz encouraged Citi to expand its corporate and institutional banking services in Pakistan. He also highlighted the bank’s existing presence in the country.
BlackRock Delegation: Gordon Fraser and Sam Vecht (Co-heads of Emerging Markets and Frontiers) and Emily Fletcher (Portfolio Manager and Research Analyst)
The prime minister invited BlackRock to increase allocations to Pakistani equities and fixed-income assets under its frontier markets strategy. The PMO said both sides stressed the need for policy consistency to support investor confidence.
Pakistan’s $3 Billion Eurobond
Earlier on September 29, Shehbaz became the first Pakistani prime minister to open a trading session at the London Stock Exchange. He also formally inaugurated Pakistan’s $3 billion dual-tranche sovereign Eurobond.
The bond attracted nearly $6 billion in investor demand, according to the Prime Minister’s remarks at the LSE. The transaction formed part of Pakistan’s debt-management strategy and followed the country’s first Panda Bond.
