SBP Confirms Two-Day Bank Holiday for Ashura 2026 Across Pakistan

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has officially announced a two-day public holiday on the occasion of Ashura 2026, during which all commercial and government banks across Pakistan will remain closed.
The bank holidays have been officially announced on Thursday, June 25, 2026, and Friday, June 26, 2026, for the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, respectively, according to an official notification released by the State Bank of Pakistan. It has been decided in accordance with the federal government’s declaration of Ashura public holidays.
All SBP offices and public and private sector banks across the country will be closed for public dealing and financial transactions on these two days, the SBP said. Over-the-counter banking services will not be available until banks reopen to normal business.
Banks to Reopen on June 29
Banks in Pakistan will open on Monday, June 29, 2026, after the Ashura holidays, and will return to normal business operations.
The Central bank has urged account holders and businesses to finish any necessary banking business before the holidays to stay away from inconvenience.
Online Banking and ATMs to Remain Available
The State Bank of Pakistan has assured digital banking services will remain unaffected despite the closure of bank branches. Customers can take advantage of:
- Online banking services
- Mobile banking applications
- ATM facilities
- Digital payment services
These services will continue to operate throughout the Ashura holidays, providing uninterrupted access to essential banking services.
Public Advised to Plan Banking Activities in Advance
Customers are being advised to prepare for their financial plans ahead of time, as the banks are closed for two days in a row. The SBP has assured that normal business operations can be carried out using Online and Electronic banking channels during the holiday period.
The declaration follows as Pakistan is readying itself to celebrate Muharram 2026, amidst a range of security and administrative measures being taken nationwide to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration of the occasion.
