State Bank of Pakistan Won’t Issue New Currency for Eid al-Fitr 2024

In a surprising turn of events, the State Bank of Pakistan has decided to break away from its traditional practice of issuing new currency notes during Eidul Fitr. This move is expected to cause a stir among the public who eagerly await the fresh notes for their Eidi celebrations.

The central bank’s decision marks a departure from the norm observed during the past two Eids. The news has left many disheartened, especially those who had been frequenting commercial banks in anticipation of the new notes.

As Eid approaches, private banks have also refrained from distributing new currency notes, citing the State Bank’s policy as the reason. This has led to the emergence of a currency mafia that is capitalizing on the situation by selling new note bundles in the black market, located near the State Bank Building.

The central bank is yet to make an official announcement regarding this development. In the past, the black market has seen a surge in activity around this time, with banknotes being sold at inflated prices due to high demand. It’s not uncommon for dealers to charge an extra Rs 200-300 for a bundle of Rs 10 notes.
