Transport Alliance Demands Vehicles and Containers Seized For Sept 27 Protest

All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan has demanded the immediate release of vehicles and containers allegedly seized in Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of a political party’s planned protest on September 27.

In a video statement, Awan claimed that Islamabad Police and Punjab Police had forcibly taken around 700 vehicles and containers belonging to transporters.

He said the containers were carrying goods worth millions of rupees. According to Awan, the cargo includes food items and supplies for other important industries.

Awan warned that keeping the vehicles and containers detained could cause financial losses to transporters and damage the goods. He said some of the goods could spoil if they remain in the containers for an extended period.

Transporters Demand Immediate Release

Awan called on the Punjab and federal governments to release the seized vehicles and containers.

He warned that if the vehicles and containers were not released immediately, the transport alliance would announce a strict course of action.

The demand comes amid renewed tensions between the government and goods transporters. The alliance had earlier postponed its nationwide strike for 40 days after receiving government assurances on several issues.

Awan had warned that transporters could resume their protest if those commitments were not implemented.
