Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has rescheduled the intermediate examinations to June 1, citing the ongoing heatwave and logistical issues as the primary reasons for the shift.
The decision came after BIEK Chairman Nasim Ahmed Memon deemed the original date of May 28 unfeasible. The board has sought a four-day delay, with a formal request submitted to the Minister of Educational Boards for approval.
Karachi, currently grappling with a heatwave, has raised concerns about the welfare of students and examination staff. The city’s unusually high temperatures have prompted this precautionary measure.
The intermediate examinations were initially set to take place in 21 higher secondary schools across the city. These venues were also scheduled to host the Matric exams in the evening. However, the extreme weather conditions have led to a postponement of the Matric exams as well.
The revised schedule aims to alleviate the heat-related stress on students, ensuring a more conducive examination environment. This move aligns with the Board of Secondary Education in Karachi’s earlier decision to defer the ongoing matriculation exams in response to the severe heatwave alert in Sindh.
Scheduled between May 21 and 27, the exams have been postponed to safeguard the students’ well-being. The education boards’ minister underscored the importance of protecting students from the extreme heat conditions, leading to these precautionary measures.
The heatwave, predicted to bring dangerously high temperatures, has necessitated these changes, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to student safety during these challenging times.
