Federal Urdu University Karachi Strike: Are Classes Suspended? Latest Updates for Students

The Faculty and Non-Teaching Staff Association at Federal Urdu University, including the Abdul Haq and Gulshan campuses, have boldly announced a complete suspension and boycott of all academic and administrative activities. The announcement came from key representatives: Roshan Ali, General Secretary at Abdul Haq Campus; Sheikh Kashif Rifat, General Secretary at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Campus; and Adnan Akhtar, President of the Non-Teaching Staff Association at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Campus.

The spark for this drastic move is the Vice-Chancellor’s recent directive to roll back the salary hikes granted in July. This decision has not gone well with the faculty and staff, who are already struggling to make ends meet due to the non-payment of regular salaries and housing allowances.

The representatives voiced their frustration, saying the employees are already under immense mental pressure and financial burden. “In these tough times, when salaries not paid on time, taking away the little relief we got, just plain unfair,” said Roshan Ali. He added that it’s getting harder for staff members to keep up with daily expenses, and reversing the salary increases feels like adding salt to their wounds.

Adnan Akhtar echoed similar sentiments, pointing out how the situation has now reached a boiling point. He emphasized that this isn’t just about one or two campuses—faculty and staff from all associations have come together to decide on this boycott, set to begin on Thursday.
