Govt Tightens Rules on University Names in Pakistan: Word ‘National’ Ban

Islamabad, Pakistan – In a move aimed at preventing private institutions from misleading the public, the Pakistani government has banned the use of the word “National” in the names of private universities and companies.

According to sources, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has issued directives to all ministries and institutions to enforce the ban, which is effective immediately. The move is intended to prevent private entities from giving the impression that they are government institutions.

The Cabinet Division has also sought an action report from all ministries and institutions to ensure compliance with the ban. The Prime Minister has been briefed on the matter and has instructed relevant authorities to take prompt action against any private institution found using the word “National” in its name.

The ban is expected to affect several private universities and companies that have been using the word “National” in their names, potentially misleading students and customers into believing they are government-run institutions.
