HEC Announces Commonwealth Scholarships 2024 for PhD and Master’s Programs

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has unveiled a golden opportunity for aspiring master’s and PhD students in 2023. Commonwealth Scholarships, administered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) on behalf of the UK government, are now available. These scholarships aim to align education with international development goals.

The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) has a remarkable track record, having supported more than 30,000 individuals in their pursuit of education in the United Kingdom. This support has empowered scholars to acquire invaluable skills, knowledge, and global networks, equipping them to tackle pressing global development challenges.

To apply for these scholarships, candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria set by both the HEC and the CSC:

HEC Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be Pakistani/AJ&K nationals and permanent residents of Pakistan/AJ&K. Dual nationals are not eligible.
  • For Master’s scholarships, applicants must hold a first division in a 16-year Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in the relevant field of study.
  • For PhD scholarships, applicants must hold a first division in a 17/18-year Masters/MS/MPhil degree in the relevant field of study.
  • Candidates must not have a Second/Third division in the terminal/last degree, and result-awaiting candidates are eligible to apply.
  • All applicants are required to provide an HAT (Higher Education Aptitude Test) score with a minimum score of 60 out of 100. HAT test results taken on or after January 01, 2022, may be uploaded on the HEC portal. Applicants who have not taken the HAT test can register for it at ETC’s website.

CSC Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be available to commence their academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2024.
  • The CSC generally does not fund a second UK Master’s degree. Applicants seeking a second UK Master’s degree must provide justification for their choice.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need and an inability to study in the UK without this scholarship.
  • Provide full transcripts of all higher education qualifications, including current transcripts, with certified translations if not in English – these should be uploaded to the online application system.
  • Furnish references from at least two individuals.
  • For Ph.D. candidates, they must not be registered for a Ph.D. or an MPhil leading to a Ph.D. at a UK university or in their home country before September/October 2024. A supporting statement from a proposed supervisor in the UK from at least one of the institutions named on the application form is required.
