The predicament arose when these students, duly admitted by SM Law College, faced rejection from Karachi University, preventing them from taking their annual examinations. Prompt intervention came from Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman Altaf Shakoor, who instructed advocate Khurram Lakhani to file a petition on behalf of the aggrieved students from Sindh Muslim Law College Karachi.
During the recent hearing, SHC expressed dissatisfaction with Karachi University’s handling of matters concerning its affiliated colleges. The court, presided over by Acting Chief Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi and Justice Abdul Mubeen Lakho, heard the perspectives of Principal SM Law College and the legal representative of Karachi University.
The principal cited a letter from the Pakistan Bar Council, affirming the admission of 150 students, while Karachi University insisted on allowing only 100 students to participate in the examinations. Seeking time for preparation, the university’s lawyer disputed the law college’s claim of admitting an additional 50 students.
Expressing displeasure, the honorable court emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the future of the students was at stake and criticized Karachi University for neglecting its affiliated colleges. The court stressed the importance of upholding the law and urged a resolution of the issues by legal procedures.
PDP’s lawyer, Khurram Lakhani, highlighted that the students had already fulfilled all admission requirements, paid fees, and attended classes since 2022. He urged the university and law college to amicably resolve their differences without jeopardizing the students’ future.
