Sindh Reduces School Timings by One Hour Across Province

The Sindh government has reduced school hours by one hour across the province. Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah said the decision came after female students asked officials to remove the extra hour from the school schedule.

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah announced the reduction while speaking at a World Teachers’ Day ceremony in Karachi.

He said female students had complained about the longer school hours. Some students said they felt hungry because of the extra hour. The minister said the government accepted their request and removed the additional hour with immediate effect.

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department later issued a circular confirming the one-hour reduction. The revised timings took effect immediately and will remain in place until further orders. Schools will continue to operate five days a week.

Why Were School Hours Increased?

Sardar Ali Shah said the extra hour had been added during the COVID-19 period and after floods. The aim was to give schools more time to complete the curriculum.

The minister also said many flood-affected schools still need repairs. He called for more funds through the federal Public Sector Development Program for the reconstruction of these schools.

The latest decision reverses the earlier increase in teaching hours. The government had added one hour to the school day after restoring the five-day working week.

The School Education Department has directed school heads and field officers to follow the revised timings.
